Patient Safety Movement Foundation Partners With the Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation
IRVINE, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 23, 2014) - The Patient Safety Movement Foundation announced today that it has partnered with the Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation (EMPSF) to help achieve zero preventable deaths in hospitals by 2020.
EMPSF is specifically focused on reducing patient safety risks in the practice of emergency medicine. With 130 million visits annually, our nation's emergency departments (EDs) serve as the front door to the hospital and act as the safety net for a large percentage of the population. Typically, these EDs are fast-paced, over-crowded, increasingly complex, high-risk environments with inherent vulnerabilities for error.
EMPSF is developing tools and resources to help mitigate these risks and support providers in their efforts to deliver safe, quality care. Its most recent toolkit, "Safer Sign Out," will soon be included in the list of the Patient Safety Movement's Actionable Patient Safety Solutions to improve the safety and reliability of end-of-shift patient "handoffs" between physicians in the emergency department.
