Perdue Agribusiness expands Virginia soybean exports to China with new trade agreement

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) -- Perdue Agribusiness is expanding exports of Virginia soybeans to China.

Jiusan Oil and Grain Industries Group plan to buy up to 8 million bushels of soybeans in a series of bulk shipments for the 2013-2014 crop.

Jiusan operates 12 soybean crushing facilities where the soybeans are processed and soybean oil is extracted. Perdue Agribusiness operates an export terminal in Chesapeake.

Gov. Bob McDonnell says the agreement is the result of meetings during a trade and marketing mission to Asia in April.

The agreement was announced by McDonnell during a tour of Perdue's export facility on Tuesday.

China was the leading market for the state's agricultural products, buying approximately $638 million in farm and forest products from Virginia in 2012.
