PHOENIX, AZ--(Marketwire - Jan 30, 2013) - PetSmart executive Jan Wilkins begins a new chapter in her career on February 4, as she takes the top job at the nonprofit PetSmart Charities.
A 22-year veteran with PetSmart, Wilkins most recently served as the company's regional vice president for Desert Plains, where she managed a team of 8,000 associates. As executive director of PetSmart Charities, she will oversee a team that finds homes for more than 420,000 homeless pets annually and provides millions of dollars in funding to help pets in need in all 50 states and Canada. Both PetSmart Charities and PetSmart are based in Phoenix.
"We're thrilled to welcome Jan to the PetSmart Charities team," says Jaye Perricone, PetSmart Charities' board vice chairperson. "Her strong leadership skills and intimate knowledge of both organizations will be critical in helping us realize our vision of finding a lifelong, loving home for every pet."
Wilkins began her career at PetSmart in 1990 as a salon manager in Tucson, Arizona. Over the next two decades, she worked her way up through the company, holding leadership roles in pet care operations, store operations and loss prevention. She also served as a district manager.
Pet adoption is a large part of Wilkins' professional and personal lives. Under her leadership, PetSmart associates in the Desert Plains region found adoptive homes for more than 50,000 pets in 2012. She and her husband Roy also are pet parents to two rescued Labrador Retrievers, Boomer and Boo.
Wilkins is a graduate of the University of Phoenix with a bachelor's degree in business administration and an MBA. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the YWCA of Maricopa County in Arizona.
