NEW YORK (AP) -- Drugmaker Pfizer Inc. said Wednesday that David Simmons, the president and general manager of its emerging markets and established products divisions, is leaving the company to become president and CEO of Pharmaceutical Product Development Inc.

Simmons has worked at Pfizer for 15 years, and he will join PPD on June 4. The company provides contract drug development and discovery services for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, academic and government organizations. The company was taken private in October by The Carlyle Group and Hellman & Friedman LP.

Pfizer said Olivier Brandicourt will replace Simmons on June 1. Brandicourt is currently the president and general manager of Pfizer's primary care business. The company said John Young will take over that role.
