PPG Industries Provides Aircraft Parts to MITAC for Testing - Analyst Blog
PPG Industries, Inc. PPG announced that its aerospace transparencies group has provided windshields and side flight-deck windows to Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (“MITAC”) for flight testing in the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (“MRJ”).
Additionally, PPG Industries has supplied ship sets of parts produced at its Huntsville, AL, manufacturing facility to MITAC, which were validated by bird-impact and static testing. Moreover, the heated glass windshield and side window designs have successfully undergone tests to stand firm against the impact of a 4-pound bird flying at 300 knots.
PPG Industries has received contracts for designing and manufacturing windshields and side windows, and supplying operators with aftermarket parts. The company is all set to commence production of these parts from this summer. PPG Aerospace is the aerospace products and services business of PPG Industries, and a leading global supplier of aircraft windshields, windows and canopies.
PPG Industries has a diversified business and a leading position in several paints and coatings end markets. Healthy momentum across automotive OEM, automotive refinish and aerospace markets is expected to support its results this year.
PPG Industries should also continue to gain from synergies from acquisitions. The acquisitions of Akzo Nobel’s North American architectural coatings business in 2013 and Comex in 2014 have further strengthened the company’s position as a leading coatings provider.
However, PPG Industries is exposed to unfavorable currency exchange translation (especially in emerging markets) stemming from a stronger dollar. In addition, some of the company’s end-markets including commercial construction still remain somewhat sluggish.
PPG Industries currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
