Priceline touches new high, Valeant plummets, Hertz plunges

Here are some of the stocks the Yahoo Finance team will be tracking for you today.

Priceline (PCLN) stock jumped to a fresh 52-week high in early trading. The online travel giant delivered a beat on both its top and bottom lines for the third quarter. Revenue rose 19% from a year ago thanks to a surge in hotel bookings. However, the company’s net income fell by more than 50% as it slowed down its expansion plans for its OpenTable dining service, which prompted a $941 million write-down.

Valeant (VRX) shares were down sharply this morning. The embattled Canadian drugmaker cut its outlook for the year after posting weaker-than-expected earnings and revenue for the third quarter. Sales fell 11% from a year ago as it struggles to turnaround its businesses after a rocky year. Valeant stock has lost more than 80% of its value this year amid controversy surrounding alleged accounting problems and drug price hikes.

Mylan (MYL) is on investors’ watch list following news that the Senate Judiciary Committee is urging the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether the maker of EpiPen engaged in anticompetitive practices. Mylan has come under fire for hiking the price of EpiPens by more than sixfold to $600 dollars each in less than a decade.

Hertz (HTZ) stock got hit hard in early trading. The car rental company reported a big earnings-per-share miss for the third quarter, and revenue also came in below estimates. Hertz also cut its outlook for the year as it expects weakness in the car rental market to persist.
