SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The California Association of Psychiatric Technicians and the State of California have reached a tentative agreement on a new, three-year contract that includes improvements for these direct-care professionals working in state hospitals, developmental centers and prisons.
Under the tentative agreement, if 2014 state-budget projections prove favorable, employees will receive a salary increase of 2 percent effective July 1, 2014, and 2.25 percent effective July 1, 2015; otherwise, all employees will receive a 4.25-percent increase effective July 1, 2015.
Other key provisions include restrictions on the use of exhausting mandated double shifts, shift-differential increases for those working evening shifts in these state 24-hour facilities, the continuation of current pension and healthcare benefits and the elimination of any furloughs or related unpaid-leave time.
Running through July 1, 2016, the tentative agreement will now be sent to all Bargaining Unit 18 members for ratification as well as to the Legislature for approval.
The California Association of Psychiatric Technicians is the elected union representative for more than 6,000 Psychiatric Technicians and related professionals in State of California service who provide licensed and certificated nursing care to Californians with mental illnesses and developmental disabilities.
