Public Safety Minister Toews Announces Appointments to the Parole Board of Canada
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov 30, 2012) - The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, today announced five appointments and one reappointment to the Parole Board of Canada.
"As an independent administrative tribunal, the Parole Board of Canada makes conditional release, record suspension and clemency decisions that contribute to the protection of society," said Minister Toews. "I congratulate these highly qualified, knowledgeable and experienced individuals on their new positions."
Atlantic Region
Louis-Philippe McGraw of Moncton, New Brunswick, is reappointed as a full-time member and Vice-Chairperson, Atlantic Region. Mr. McGraw, a lawyer by profession, was first appointed to the Board in 2008. From 2006 to 2008, Mr. McGraw was the Director of Regional Affairs for Veterans Affairs Canada. From 2003 to 2006, he served as a corporate lawyer for La Caisse Populaire of Shippagan. From 1999 to 2003, he was a Member of the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly, representing the riding of Centre-Péninsule.
Mary G. Crane of Kensington, Prince Edward Island, is appointed as a part-time member. Ms. Crane has more than 30 years'' experience working as an educator. Prior to joining the Board, she was a Communications Instructor at the College of the North Atlantic-Qatar, Doha, Qatar. From 1989 to 2009, she was the Department Head, English and Social Studies at the Kensington Intermediate Senior High School. Ms. Crane is an active volunteer in her community, chairing a number of boards and committees.
Ontario Region
Pauline B. Hodgkiss of Cambridge, Ontario, is appointed as a full-time member. Ms. Hodgkiss was first appointed to the Board as a part-time member in 2007, and again in 2010. Prior to joining the Board, she was part-time Vice-Chairperson at the Employment Insurance Board of Referees. She has more than 35 years'' experience in the education field as a teacher, school administrator, and as the Director of the Federation of Women Teachers of Ontario.
Linda Lennon of Hepworth, Ontario, has been appointed as a full-time member. She was first appointed to the Board as a part-time member in May of 2005, and again in 2008 and in 2011. From 1993 to 1998, she worked at the Board as a full-time member. Prior to joining the Board, Ms. Lennon was an office manager at the Financial Building Corporation of Canada in Waterloo, where she worked from 1998 to 2005. She was also a Councillor for the City of Guelph.
Lubomyr Yaroslav Luciuk of Kingston, Ontario, has been appointed as a part-time member. Dr. Luciuk is a full Professor at the Department of Politics and Economics at the Royal Military College of Canada. He is also a Fellow, Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Toronto. Dr. Luciuk has published numerous books, papers, and articles on a wide range of topics, notably, in the field of political geography and Ukrainian history.
Prairie Region
Robert Marshall of Winnipeg, Manitoba, is appointed as a part-time member. Mr. Marshall has worked as a senior policing professional at the Winnipeg Police Department for over 27 years. Mr. Marshall has worked in academia, and is a published writer and experienced presenter on complex policing issues.
