ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (AP) -- Quest Software Inc. said Tuesday that CEO Doug Garn is leaving his post due to health issues, and will be replaced by Executive Chairman Vinny Smith.
The company said that Garn, 53, will be vice chairman of the company's board of directors. Smith, 48, will remain chairman of the board along with being CEO.
A company spokeswoman said Quest would not comment on Garn's health issues. Garn has been CEO for three years, according to the company. Smith was Quest's CEO from 1997 to 2008. He has been on the company's board since 1995 and became chairman of the board in 1998.
Quest makes software platforms run by big companies to run servers, manage databases and perform other functions.
Shares of Quest fell 55 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $21.10 in aftermarket trading.
