QuickLogic's Sensor Hub to be KitKat Compliant

Zacks

QuickLogic Corporation's (QUIK) stock price rose to close to its 52-week high of $5.48, after it declared the immediate accessibility of its unique sensor hub solution for smartphones and tablets running on Android 4.4 (KitKat) operating system. The shares closed at the day’s high of $5.44, thereby recording a massive 10.6% intraday appreciation.

QuickLogic, a trendsetter in low-power Customer Specific Standard Products (:CSSP), observed that its new Always-on Context Aware Sensor Hub catalog CSSP is compliant with the Android KitKat operating system. This CSSP features Sensor Platform Inc.'s FreeMotion library a comprehensive sensor fusion and context awareness solution optimized for smartphones, tablets and wearable devices.

Application developers have set their sight on future when mobile devices will be capable of generating meaningful content by constantly monitoring our surroundings. Quicklogic’s Always-on Context Awareness meets this requirement through the computation and fusion of data from numerous sensors located within a mobile device.

To avoid compromising on battery life, KitKat requires that certain sensor algorithms and tasks be offloaded from the power-hungry application processor to enable new sensor-driven use cases. QuickLogic's solution supports numerous features like step count and detection, game and geomagnetic rotation vectors, significant motion detection, and batched events on smartphones and tablets. Most notably, the distinctive processing architecture of the QuickLogic solution is reported to be very light on power consumption with less than 1% of a typical smartphone battery.

QuickLogic’s KitKat-compliant solution supports all widely used sensors in mobile devices, such as, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Magnetometer, Pressure, Ambient Light and Proximity.

QuickLogic develops and markets low-power customizable semiconductor solutions for smartphones, tablets, wearable devices and mobile enterprise products. QuickLogic solutions enable OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to extend battery life and improve the visual experience of their handheld mobile devices while adding new features to them.

QuickLogic presently sports a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Other notable companies in the industry include Lattice Semiconductor Corp. (LSCC), FormFactor Inc. (FORM) and Pericom Semiconductor Corp. (PSEM). While Lattice holds a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), FormFactor and Pericom carry a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) each.
