I quit Rajya Sabha seat as I was told to stay away from Punjab: Navjot Sidhu

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, at his first press conference since his resignation from the Rajya Sabha, on Monday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party saying that the reason he quit was because he was told that to stay away from Punjab.

“I was told, ‘Sidhu, Punjab se door raho,“ he claimed, adding, “how can I turn my face away from Punjab? Punjab is my home, I cannot leave Punjab.”

While Sidhu did not mention during his press conference that he had quit the Bharatiya Janata Party or that he was joining the Aam Aadmi Party, he said that he was told to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Kurukshetra.

“How can I abandon the people who voted for me? Have been told to stay away not once, but three, four times. At least, tell me my crime. Party is not above Punjab. Sidhu will be there for whatever is good for Punjab. Always wanted to serve Punjab and Amritsar,” the fiery Sidhu added.
