COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- An Atlanta recycling firm is putting $40 million into a former mill in Graniteville, S.C. and expects to employ 200 people.

Gov. Nikki Haley and the CEO of Recleim made the announcement Wednesday in Columbia. Ben Hirokawa says the firm will begin hiring by the end of the year for three production lines.

The firm recycles substances from discarded appliances such as refrigerators and freezers as well as computers, laptops and cellphones. The company says it uses environmentally sound procedures so harmful substances don't enter the atmosphere.

Graniteville lost a number of jobs after a 2005 train collision that released chlorine gas that killed nine people and injured scores of others.
