Redfin Brings Its Real Estate Brokerage to Hampton Roads, Virginia

Hampton Roads Residents Can Now Work with Redfin Agents Who Are Paid Based on Client Satisfaction

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Redfin (www.redfin.com), the customer-first real estate brokerage, today announced the launch of its home-buying and selling services in Virginia Beach and the rest of the Hampton Roads area. Now people can work with Redfin agents to buy and sell homes in Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach and York counties.

“The military bases, college and university communities and beaches of Hampton Roads create a diverse and vibrant real estate market, and a perfect fit for Redfin’s customer-first approach,” said Marshall Park, who oversees the Redfin business throughout Virginia. “Redfin has local data and technology that no other brokerage has, which is especially useful in areas like Hampton Roads, where people are often moving from other areas. We can’t wait to guide the people of this community through the home-buying and selling process in a way they’ve never experienced before.”

The Redfin model is different from that of other brokerages because it uniquely aligns agent and customer interests. Redfin agents are paid a salary and receive benefits, with customer satisfaction ratings not transactions determining each agent’s bonuses. All reviews for all Redfin agents are published on their online profiles, and 97 percent of customers would recommend their Redfin agent.

Redfin also works to put money back into the pockets of both its home-buying and selling customers. Redfin refunds homebuyers a portion of the buyer's agent commission. To date, Redfin has saved its customers more than $175 million in real estate fees. For a $300,000 home, a Redfin homebuyer in Virginia Beach would save more than $1,700. For listing clients, Redfin agents charge 1.5 percent rather than the typical 3 percent, while providing the full listing service, from pricing and staging advice and professional photography through the negotiation and closing processes. Someone selling a $300,000 home would save $4,500.

Redfin agent Alyssa Cokinos joined the company in 2012 in Washington, D.C., where she helped more than 50 people buy and sell homes. Prior to becoming a real estate agent, Cokinos served as an electronics technician in the U.S. Navy. During her time in the Navy, she lived and trained on the Dam Neck base in Virginia Beach. Alyssa was drawn back to the area not just by the beaches but also by the opportunity to bring the Redfin blend of technology and transparency to the Hampton Roads real estate community.

“Real estate runs in my family, and I have always loved technology, so Redfin truly blends two of my favorite things into one custom-made career for me,” Cokinos said. “I think Redfin is an especially perfect fit for Hampton Roads residents, many of whom are military personnel and often need to relocate from out of town or out of the country on a very tight timeline. Redfin agents use proprietary technology as well as tools like Skype for home tours to make home buying easy for people in all kinds of otherwise tricky situations.”

With the arrival of Redfin, people in Virginia Beach can now use state-of-the art online and mobile tools to quickly access the most accurate and up-to-date information about homes for sale:

  • Mobile Home Tour Scheduling: Request an in-person home tour with a Redfin agent using the iPhone or iPad app.
  • Instant Updates: Receive smartphone or email notifications when new homes are listed or when the status or price of a “favorited” home changes.
  • Offer Insights: View real-time statistics and notes from Redfin agents about their home offers to understand what it takes to win a bidding war in a given neighborhood.
