STURBRIDGE, Mass., May 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Regional Economic Development Organization (REDO) today announced the availability of free manufacturing training for qualified individuals* aged 18 and older, interested in acquiring entry level skills and credentials that area employers are actively seeking. Four orientation sessions for individuals interested in learning more are slated to take place at Workforce Central, 5 Optical Drive, Southbridge MA. They will be held on: Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 10:00 AM; Friday, May 30 at 2:00 PM; Tuesday, June 3 at 2:00 PM; and, Friday, June 6 at 10:00 AM. Pre-registration is required and it is encouraged that participants reside within Southern Worcester County.
"In Massachusetts alone, there are currently 9,000 manufacturing job openings, and career opportunities in this field are expected to increase exponentially over the next decade. With starting wages in the $10-$14/hour range, manufacturing represents a competitive, stable and attractive industry," comments Alexandra McNitt, Executive Director of The Chamber of Central Mass South. "The key is finding employees with industry recognized skills. As such, we are pleased to offer free training that will allow people to get their foot in the door of key manufacturing companies in the area."
Qualified applicants will have the opportunity to participate in a week-long manufacturing training boot camp to be held June 23, 2014 - June 27, 2014 in Sturbridge where they will learn industry-recognized skills including shop math, blueprint reading, metrology, workplace safety, and work readiness. "Whether it is Incom, United Lens, Karl Storz, IPG Photonics Corporation, Hyde Tools, Dexter-Russell, or any number of other leading companies in the area, they are all looking to hire skilled employees with positive attitudes, and a desire to succeed. Our training session will better enable and position applicants for job openings and career growth in the $6.2 billion manufacturing sector," adds McNitt.
