Retail gasoline prices increase across Texas

Average price of gasoline increases across Texas, remains well below national average

HOUSTON (AP) -- Retail gasoline prices across Texas have increased an average of 5 cents per gallon in the last week, but they remain well below the national average.

AAA Texas on Thursday reported the average price per gallon at the pump reached $3.43. Nationwide gas prices rose to $3.63 per gallon.

Drivers in Dallas and Fort Worth are paying the most on average at $3.47, and drivers in El Paso are paying the least at $3.25.

The association says mid-January prices at the pump were pushed higher by more expensive crude oil, but also by limited regional refinery capacity and other factors. Unlike recent years, escalating regional tensions overseas have not been a major factor in the price increase. Analysts expect the increase will slow as production concerns are addressed.
