YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: A rustic-luxe mini-mansion owned by legendary retired tennis pro Pete Sampras and tucked privately into a densely forested half-acre parcel at the tail end of a quiet, little-known cul-de-sac in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles and has been volleyed on to the open market at $8.9 million. “Pistol Pete,” a 14-time Grand Slam winner so named for his wicked service game, and his wife, former Miss Teen USA and seemingly retired actress Bridgette Wilson-Sampras — her last professional credit in the Internet Movie Data Base shows as 2008, purchased the gated property in December 2009 for $5.6 million. Current listing details, which declare the vaguely Craftsman-style home was “Recently expanded and designed with the absolute finest finishes,” encompasses about 6,900-square-feet and there are a total of six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, including two master suites, one on the main floor and another upstairs with sizable sitting area, tree-shaded deck with backyard overlook, and generously sky-lit bathroom with fireplace.
Ordinary looking but no doubt brutally costly, medium brown hardwood floors extend throughout the main floor living areas that include a combination living and dining room with not just one but two fireplaces plus a vaulted, sky-lit and wood-beamed ceiling, and French doors to the backyard. The high-end if generically ho-hum kitchen incorporates a double wide center island with integrated snack bar and opens to a family room with stacked stone fireplace, built-in bookshelves, and a corkscrew staircase that winds up to a loft. A separate library/media lounge offers yet another fireplace plus a charming window seat and complete wall of open book shelves and enclosed storage cabinets. The Samprases previous residences, which tended towards rather large, include a custom-built contemporary compound with 13,177-square-feet mansion on about 20-acres inside the guarded gates of the fancy-pants Lake Sherwood enclave in Thousand Oaks, CA, that they first put up for sale in 2010 at $25 million but didn’t actually unload until October 2013 for just $13.56 million. And, veteran celebrity real estate watchers may recall, way back in 2008 the Samprases sold an elegantly dour, 10,000-plus-square-foot red brick English Country pile in a plummy pocket of Beverly Hills for $16.8 million to “Will & Grace” co-creator Max Mutchnick and his high-powered entertainment attorney husband Erik Hyman.
