PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A new analysis of Rhode Island labor data shows considerably stronger job growth in the third quarter of last year than was initially reported.
The state Department of Labor and Training said Tuesday there were 4,900 more jobs during July, August and September of last year than original estimates. The number of Rhode Island-based jobs was 464,400.
The new estimate is based on an analysis of tax data from 32,000 businesses. The earlier estimate was done based on a monthly survey of 1,700 representative businesses.
The new estimate also shows an over-the-year job gain of 4,700, compared with an initial estimated job loss of 200.
Rhode Island is tied with Nevada for the highest unemployment rate in the country, at 10.2 percent.
