The initiative provides counseling for those facing foreclosure, housing workshops, computer literacy and adult education. It also includes a public awareness campaign targeting minority and immigrant homeowners.

HousingWorks RI of Providence is getting $60,000 to research and report on foreclosures and foreclosure prevention programs over the next three years.

Five major banks agreed to a $25 million settlement with the federal government and state attorney generals over flawed mortgage practices.
