Ron Paul Campaign Calls on Newt Gingrich to Apologize for His Staff Assault on Ron Paul Supporter

"They say the culture of an organization is a reflection of its top executive and today’s deplorable behavior against Ron Paul supporter Eddie Dillard in Florida reflects very poorly on Congressman Gingrich"

LAKE JACKSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign is requesting an apology and decisive action from Congressman Newt Gingrich and his campaign for abuse the latter organization perpetrated against a Ron Paul supporter.

The incident occurred in the Orlando suburb of Windermere, Florida and involved 29-year-old Ron Paul supporter Eddie Dillard, who was injured during an exchange with the Gingrich campaign.

Mr. Dillard arrived at his polling site, the Windermere Baptist Church, and noticed a Gingrich supporter holding a Gingrich sign, so to reciprocate he returned to the scene with a Ron Paul sign. The area he chose was public space but it had been identified by the Gingrich campaign as the very place where Gingrich would be visiting. As the Gingrich staff moved in, members of the security detail and/or other staff warned Mr. Dillard, telling him to exit from the public space. When Mr. Dillard exercised his right of free expression by remaining there, simply holding the sign, Gingrich’s campaign team escalated the situation and, noticing Mr. Dillard was wearing flip-flops, dug their heels in his foot and reportedly directed each other to step on Mr. Dillard’s feet. Mr. Dillard, to be sure, was injured, harassed, and inconvenienced.

Reporters from Yahoo! News were on the scene and covered the story here.

In response to the incident, the Ron Paul Presidential campaign released the following statement. Below find comments from National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton:

“They say the culture of an organization is a reflection of its top executive and today’s deplorable behavior against Ron Paul supporter Eddie Dillard in Florida reflects very poorly on Congressman Gingrich.

“I call on Congressman Gingrich to publicly apologize to Mr. Dillard.

“In addition, we ask that those Gingrich campaign staff directly involved in the episode be immediately terminated.

“There is simply no excuse for the type of violent, boorish and abusive behavior demonstrated by Mr. Gingrich's campaign. We hope Mr. Gingrich understands this and takes the actions we recommend."

Not "assault" charges, the charge is battery, and might be aggravated due use of instrumentalities.

In anyevent, just shows again how Gingrich & Obama are so much alike - simpy statist thugs.

**** RON PAUL 2012 IS PROVEN TO BEAT OBAMA! ******

Media everywhere is censoring Ron Paul and leaving him out of polls, articles, reports & news feeds! The MOST HONEST man for America is the one they're all too scared to talk about-- VOTE RON PAUL 2012!

It's about time America ends the USELESS, EXPENSIVE Drug War, MODERN DAY PROHIBITION to let non-violent people FREE!

**** RON PAUL 2012 IS PROVEN TO BEAT OBAMA! ******

I'm glad the campaign came out and charged Gingrich with terminating those responsible. I too think Eddie should file charges of battery. Foot injuries are very hard to heal and if there is any fractures or tendon damage he could suffer alot of discomfort for months to come. I admire him for standing his ground,After all he can not read minds to know Newt wanted that spot for a photo op. They could have just moved over,Eddie would not have followed them. Just a bunch of Thugs.

The Newton bullyboys am sure follow the motto "No Harm No Foul!(since they booed RP and his imploring America to follow the Golden Rule)...THEY are the litigious whiners and complainers...the 1930's Germans and Italians brown/blackshirts werent that dissimilar......the main difference is Newt's thugs wear white shirts and ties..

This is SICKENING. We're lucky to hear all of Gingrich's flubs now, imagine how much will be COVERED UP if he becomes president. A successful campaign is when you treat every American like they count, not this DISGUSTING act of "high-school" trickery... You will NEVER hear anything as abysmal and atrocious from the Paul campaign!!! RON PAUL 2012!!!

Newt and Santorum should drop out. They have no shot at beating Obama. Only Paul and Romney do.

Sad to hear this. Hope Newt takes reposibility. By the way the media and insider people won't let Ron Paul win the Republican Primaries. There are lots of powerful people behind the curtains that have lots of interests and they will do anything in their great influential power to prevent Ron Paul from becoming president. You see Ron Paul wants to straighten and fix lots of issues in this country but this will greatly ruin many elite people's plans to gain money from this bad economy.

Ron Paul is the only honest conservative constitutionalist republican candidate. He hasn't changed his positions constantly as the others have. He talks about issues. The others talk religion. I am Christian but are we voting for president or Pope? Ron Paul is the only reasonable honest candidate.

I'm a Ron Paul supporter, but I don't blame Newt Gingrich for this. It's the same as if Ron Paul staff did this to a Newt Gingrich supporter. It wouldn't be Ron's fault, it would be the staffs fault. However as the man ultimately in charge of the campaign, Newt is responsible for what happens to those staff and should take appropriate actions against the offending staffers.
