Russell Wins Two Medals at 2015 Canadian Brewing Awards

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - June 17, 2015) - Russell Brewing Company is pleased to announce that it has been honored with two medals at the 13th annual Canadian Brewing Awards on June 8th: a gold medal for Punch Bowl in the American Style India Pale Ale category, and a bronze medal for Blood Alley in the English Style Pale Ale/Bitter category.

The Canadian Brewing Awards is an annual beer competition that invites breweries of all sizes from across the country to compete in a blind tasting by a panel of Certified Beer Judges (BJCP). This year, the Awards was held at Crowne Plaza Fallsview in Niagara Falls, Ontario. There were 1234 beers in 41 categories entered into this year's competition from 195 Canadian breweries.

Russell Punch Bowl India Session Ale was a one-off limited brew released in March. Subtle northwest malt characters are combined with Citra, Mosaic and Amarillo hops to create tropical, fruity flavours such as stone fruit, berries and melon.

"The malt, hops, sweetness and bitterness are balanced and spot on. Making it a great NW IPA," said Darry Lamb, Brand Manager of Legacy Liquor Store.

"It doesn't come across as a tropical punch, rather a tropical embrace," said Chris Bonnaillie, Beer Supervisor of Legacy Liquor Store.

Punch Bowl IPA is available in limited quantities at various private liquor stores in BC and Alberta this year. To keep up with the high demand, Russell Brewing is looking to bring it back next year too.

Russell Blood Alley is an Extra Special Bitter named after a notorious cobblestone laneway in Vancouver's Gastown district. At 50 IBU's this beer is slightly higher in bitterness than the average ESB but it is well-balanced by the rich, roasted malt flavours. It is available all-year-round at BC Liquor Stores, various private liquor stores and on tap in BC and Alberta.
