MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- A utility has completed its acquisition of National Grid's gas and electric business in New Hampshire.

Liberty Utilities, a subsidiary of Ontario-based Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp., has bought the businesses for $285 million.

The deal affects 87,000 natural gas and 43,000 electric customers.

A formal announcement was planned Tuesday.

National Grid said in 2010 that it planned to sell Granite State Electric and EnergyNorth. It was unhappy with regulators' ratemaking policies in New Hampshire.

Service has been provided to Derry, Londonderry, Pelham, Salem and Windham.
