Dawson, a renowned brand strategist with a prestigious background at leading London advertising agencies, will lead SapientNitro’s existing formidable strategy team, leveraging his brand strategy acumen to further strengthen the agency’s ability to meld the best of creativity and technology and help clients drive stronger brand-customer relationships in this increasingly complex, always-on world.
Dawson joins from Enter (formerly HMDG), where he was a Founder and Planning Partner. Prior to HMDG, he built and led one of London’s biggest and most successful planning departments at TBWA before being promoted to Chairman.
At SapientNitro, Dawson will report to Senior Vice President and Managing Director Europe Nigel Vaz and will be based at the agency’s London offices. Dawson will be a member of the SapientNitro European Leadership Team, working alongside Vaz, Chief Creative Officer Europe Malcolm Poynton and others to strengthen the agency’s connected strategy offering for clients and drive its growth across Europe.
“Neil is widely regarded as a world-class strategist, with the rare combination of proven agency leadership and entrepreneurial drive that has previously contributed to the success of leading global brands including Mars, Etihad and Adidas,” said Nigel Vaz, SapientNitro’s SVP and MD for Europe. “He will be a great addition to SapientNitro’s strategic capabilities in business and digital strategy, where his brand and advertising pedigree will enhance the way in which we help clients advance their businesses as we redefine storytelling and pioneer new means of helping clients engage today’s connected consumers in a landscape that is rapidly changing.”
Spanning nearly two decades of senior strategist roles at leading advertising agencies, Dawson has experience with UK and European brands and campaigns across a range of categories including automotive, financial services, alcoholic and soft drinks, health and beauty retail, furniture retail and food.
“As the growing role of technology in consumers’ lives continues to disrupt business, the contribution of strategy is more important than ever. The opportunities for brands to engage with connected consumers have never been more fascinating and challenging,” said Dawson. “I’m excited to be joining a company that is redefining what it means to be an agency and is doing more than any other in the agency space to help its clients transform. Its unique blend of strategy, creativity and technology skills sets SapientNitro apart from everyone else. It’s a special place and I am thrilled to be here.”
During his tenure as Executive Planning Director at TBWA London, the agency won numerous creative awards including the Cannes Lions Grand Prix for Sony PlayStation ‘Mountain’, while Dawson led the planning department to five IPA Effectiveness Awards. He then served two years as Chairman of the London office before leaving to set up HMDG in 2007. He was Convenor of the Judges for the IPA Effectiveness Awards in 2008. Prior to TBWA, Dawson was Planning Director first for EURO RSCG London and then Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy, where he was also Partner.
