Senator Mike Lee, the Ranking Member on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee, sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission regarding the proposed merger between Express Scripts (ESRX) and Medco Health Solutions (MHS). Lee noted that the merger of these two large pharmacy benefit managers is a significant transaction that should be given careful consideration by the FTC. Lee said, “The merger of these PBMs may pose some risks to the market’s competitive balance but overall has the potential to create meaningful efficiencies and provide significant savings for consumers...“I am not aware of significant evidence that this merger will result in decreased competition among viable PBMs able to service most companies and accounts.”

I am with you Stephen. I just think it funny that Express Scripts is called a Pharmacy Benefit Manger when it does not have the largest Pharmacy in the US in their network. They should be called a PRM...Pharmacy Roadblock Manager. Anyway, if you are a consumer and have Express Scripts, it sucks to told that can't use certain pharmacies, especially the largest one in the US.

How is it that Express Scripts posted lower EPS than Wall Street expected and lost profits as well and there stock price goes up. And now a story emerges that the merger would be good . It is far to easy to manipulate the stock market by floating this

There is no good that can come out of this. None of the supposed savings would be passed on to patients. Where's the savings from cutting Walgreens out. Earnings for express actually went down cause employers realized they could get another PBM for less premium with more options for patients
