TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) -- Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. said that U.S. sales jumped 41.5 percent in September from a year ago, as sales jumped for vehicles including its Corolla and Camry sedans, as well as Prius cars and Tacoma pickup trucks.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Japanese automaker sold a total of 171,910 vehicles last month, compared to 121,451 in September 2011.
TOP SELLER: Sales of the Camry mid-size car rose 37.8 percent to 34,252 in September, up from 24,851 in the same month a year ago.
HOT MODELS: Sales of Toyota's Prius hybrid doubled to 18,932, from 9,325. Corolla sedan sales rose 42.6 percent to 23,025, from 16,147 a year ago. Tacoma pickups jumped 48.9 percent to 12,176, from 8,180.
