LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y. (AP) -- Sirona Dental Systems Inc. said Thursday Jeffrey T. Slovin has become its new CEO following the retirement of Jost Fischer, a succession plan the dental equipment maker announced last November.
The New York company also said board member Thomas Jetter has become its non-executive chairman. Fischer served as both chairman and CEO.
Slovin, 48, had served as Sirona's president since September 2010. He also was CEO of Schick Technologies Inc., a dental technology company Sirona acquired in 2006.
Sirona develops and sells dental products that include restoration systems, three-dimensional imaging systems and hand pieces. The company said earlier this month its fiscal first-quarter earnings were nearly unchanged due in part to an international sales slump and higher costs.
Shares of Sirona fell 21 cents to $70.02 in Thursday afternoon trading, while the Nasdaq exchange dropped about 1 percent.
