CH2M HILL, the employee owned infrastructure and programme management company, has awarded a grant of USD$50,000 to the Social Mobility Foundation (SMF), through the CH2M HILL Foundation.
The grant has been awarded in support of the CH2M HILL Foundation mission to develop sustainable communities and to encourage social and environmental responsibility. The Foundation focuses on three pillars: environmental stewardship; science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education; and employee engagement.
The SMF aims to help high-achieving young people from low-income backgrounds enter top professions including engineering, business, law and politics. The CH2M HILL Foundation grant will enable the SMF to implement its first engineering residential programme. The grant will support one-on-one mentoring between students and engineering professionals, a free structured one-week onsite work placement in the CH2M HILL London office for up to 25 A-level students, and skills workshops on networking, CV writing, presentations and interviews.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as CH2M HILL Foundation’s first UK grant recipient,” said David Johnston, CEO of the Social Mobility Foundation. “Importantly the partnership will not simply provide financial investment but enable us to utilise the skills of CH2M HILL employees who will act as mentors and work placement hosts for young people who would never otherwise get such opportunities. It is great for a small charity such as ours to have the support of such a prestigious global business.”
Rachel White, a UK employee board member for the Foundation says, “The CH2M HILL Foundation is delighted to be supporting the Social Mobility Foundation with its first UK grant. The Foundation’s core value of supporting skills development in STEM skills is strongly reflected in the SMF aims to make a practical improvement in social mobility for your people. Our employees are looking forward to getting engaged with the SMF and helping to make a difference to the prospects of young people in our local communities.”
