Arvind Mahankali from Queens has won the 2013 Scripps National Spelling Bee!
The 13-year-old was the favorite coming in, and he did not disappoint.
The winning word was "knaidel" — a German-derived word.
It's ironic because Arvind was knocked out by German words in each of the last two years, and finished third both times.
He's a low-key guy, and his celebration was appropriately subdued:
Here's the video of the final word:
Grace Remmer — a 14 year old from Florida — was the dark horse pick to win. She finished a respectable 9th.
A number of past winners have gone on to successful careers. Hopefully Arvind joins that list eventually.
