TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 5, 2012) - SPOT COFFEE (CANADA) LTD. (TSX VENTURE:SPP.V - News) ("SPoT" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that Mr. Anton Ayoub has been appointed the President of the Company. Mr. Ayoub will replace Mr. Raymond J. Stapell who will continue to remain a Director on the board and the Company's chief legal advisor.
The directors and management team of SPoT would like to thank Mr. Stapell for his time and dedication to the Company. Under Mr. Stapell's direction, Spot has expanded to ten cafes currently operating and under development and has benefitted from strong operational improvements. As SPoT embarks on a period of more aggressive expansion, the Company welcomes Mr. Ayoub to SPoT and is confident he will be a key driver of the entire SPoT team as the company expands its operations nationally and internationally.
Mr. Ayoub is very familiar with SPoT Coffee's concept, operations and has been a driver of the Company's recent expansion as he has acted as Senior Project Manager for the construction of all SPoT's new cafes and more recently as Vice President of the Company.
"I am pleased with the appointment of Anton as President of SPoT," commented John Lorenzo, Chairman of the Board. "I have been successfully working with Anton for years and he has extensive experience in the food and hospitality industries. He shares my passion and vision of the Spot concept and I'm confident that all of us at Spot will benefit under his direction."
Mr. Ayoub has extensive experience in the food and hospitality service industry including food manufacturing, set-up of food production plants as well as in the establishment of a chain of upscale corporate-owned cafes.
Mr. Ayoub graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Toronto in 1982 and is a professional engineer in Ontario.
In the early years of his career, Mr. Ayoub worked internationally, executing various projects in the hospitality, entertainment and educational field including a luxury hotel and water theme park in Spain, a stadium for international competitions in Jordan and master-planned communities in Belgium. He then spent time in Europe where he worked with food equipment manufacturers in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and Austria with special focus on developing innovative, custom built food production equipment and machinery for use in high volume food production applications.
Upon his return to Canada in 1994, he started a business with a group of associates that specialized in the high volume production and sale of fresh waffles. This business venture allowed him to utilize the widespread experience he had gained in this field while working in Europe. The recipes were stabilized which supported the sale of the plain, flavoured and chocolate-dipped waffles at supermarket chains in North America and other parts of the world. During this time, he oversaw the design and construction of two major production plants in Ontario. Both of these plants achieved HACCAP and ISO certification. This venture achieved fast growth and high sales and was acquired a few years later by a multinational food corporation.
Under a separate division of the waffle production company, Mr. Ayoub established a chain of upscale European-style cafe-restaurants that was equally successful and was sold independently.
SPoT continues to strategically grow and recently announced the location of its tenth cafe in Saratoga Springs, New York. The first of several new cafes targeted for this community. The Company is continuing to identify new locations consistent with SPoT's location and demographic criteria. Spot reiterates that ample opportunities exist that may facilitate accelerated growth ahead of the Company's expansion schedule.
SPoT (www.spotcoffee.com) designs, builds and operates community-oriented cafes that provide its customers from every lifestyle and culture with the highest quality service, signature light meals and in-house roasted gourmet coffee. The current SPoT management team and directors have been successfully operating company-owned cafes since 2004.
Each SPoT cafe is a popular and friendly gathering place for its community where specialty coffee, upscale beverages, fresh baked goods, signature sandwiches, soups, salads and gourmet pizza, cakes, pastries and home baked goods are offered and enjoyed by its patrons in a warm, friendly and home-like environment.
The Company currently operates seven cafes that range in size from 2,000 to in excess of 4,000 sq. ft. with three more cafes currently under development. Spot is currently evaluating several locations as part of its North American expansion.
