Starbucks through the years
Starbucks (SBUX), the American global coffee company, has been successful for years, but as with any famous coffee chain there is a history behind the success.
It started out as a single coffee shop in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1971. By the time Starbucks was publicly traded in the early 1990s, there were over 100 stores and Starbucks had added specialty drinks, such as the Frappuccino blended beverages, to its menu.
In 1999, there were about 2,500 stores worldwide and the brand had acquired Tazo Tea.
The beloved fall favorite, Pumpkin Spice Latte, was introduced in the early 2000s and is back on the selves Tuesday.
From 2008 to now, Starbucks continues to stand out from other coffee brands by offering the Starbucks card mobile payment, having a Facebook and Twitter page and "Tweet-a-Coffee," which lets consumers buy coffee for friends via Twitter.
In 2014, the brand, with more than 21,000 stores in 65 countries, announced collaboration with Oprah Winfrey to co-create Teavana Oprah Chai tea.
