Starwood Hotels (HOT) Opens HU Bar & Lounge in Shanghai

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. HOT recently announced the opening of HU Bar & Lounge at its skyscraper luxury hotel, Le Royal Meridien Shanghai.

HU Bar & Lounge is located on the 64th, 65th and 66th floors of the hotel. This latest nightlife destination is inspired by the past, present and future glories of Shanghai. It is divided into three areas – an elegant penthouse-inspired event space, a classically styled bar, and a chic nightclub. The Lounge Bar draws inspiration from the character of Madame Hu, a long-time resident of Shanghai.

The 64th floor houses HU's Atelier and HU's Penthouse. The Atelier is a residential venue that accommodates a reception area, a living room, a dining room and bar, and a kitchen. The Atelier, suitable for meetings, fashion shows and upscale social gatherings, has enough room for up to 100 guests.

The 65th floor features the Classic Comforts of the 19th century, with a focus on whiskies and wines. The place showcases Shanghai of the 1930s, complete with local traditional touches like a classic cocktail bar and live jazz performances. It also features a live open kitchen that serves Shanghai’s street food.

The 66th floor, which represents Modern Edginess, boasts the most happening nightlife in Shanghai. It offers champagne selections, cocktails, live DJs, a central dance floor, and booth seating. This place attempts to entice youngsters with fun elements like lollipop bar snacks, internationally famous DJs, mobile technologies and state-of-the-art LED lighting.

More than half of Starwood’s properties are situated outside the U.S., which gives it wide international exposure, unlike any of its peers. Within Asia, China promises lucrative growth opportunities with visits expected to increase substantially in the near term.

Starwood expects 2016 to be strong in terms of openings and new deals supported by the rise in global travel demand and increasing wealth among consumers. This Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company will continue to concentrate on fast growing areas where demand is substantially high but supply is limited.

Other hotels in the industry that are also expanding their footprint to cash in on the rising demand are Marriott International, Inc. MAR, Hyatt Hotels Corporation H and Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. HLT.
