The big three equity indexes were little-changed on Wednesday's shortened session, staying in a range that had been in place leading up to the July 4 holiday.
The S&P 500 rose 0.08 percent to 1615.41. It fell early and then melted higher into the afternoon on light volume. The next level of resistance is 1650, while support is at 1573.
The Nasdaq 100 also fought back from early losses and closed higher by 0.4 percent to 2941. The next level of resistance is 3000, while support is at 2850.
The Russell 2000 rose 0.16 percent to 991.13. Resistance is at 1000 and support is at 950.
