Stocks rise as Boeing, others report income gains

Better earnings from Boeing, Caterpillar send stocks higher in early trading on Wall Street

NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks are mostly higher on Wall Street in early trading after Boeing, Caterpillar and other U.S. companies turn in better financial results.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 57 points at 12,674 shortly after the opening bell Wednesday. The Standard & Poor's 500 rose more than four points at 1,343.

The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite fell 6 points to 2,857. The Nasdaq's biggest component, Apple, fell 4 percent after its earnings badly missed analysts' forecasts.

Caterpillar, which makes mining and construction equipment, rose $3.63, or 4.5 percent, to $85.06. Boeing rose $1.86, or 2.6 percent, to $73.89.

Netflix dropped $15, or 19 percent, to $65.39.
