Stocks turn higher on strong job openings report

Stocks turn higher on Wall Street as US jobs openings jump to a three-year high

NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks are rising at midday as investors turn their focus to positive news about U.S. job openings, the latest sign that the economy is recovering.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 31 points to 12,876 shortly before noon Eastern. The Standard & Poor's 500 gained 2 points to 1,346. The Nasdaq composite rose 8 points to 2,909.

Indexes turned higher in midmorning trading Tuesday after the government reported that the number of available jobs in the United States jumped in December to the highest level in nearly three years.

Earlier in the day, stocks fell on more troublesome news in Greece, where talks dragged on over terms of new spending cuts.

Of course the economy is recovering. This country is too resilient to stay down for too long. More good news for President Obama.

Great news for those waiting to be employed. Shows that things are working even though slowly.

"...strong job openings report.". That should give our bitter Republican friends some serious heartburn. I am pretty sure they will try to spin it any possible way, but it is getting harder and harder for thrm to do so.

Really ? Two thing 1- The market ALWAYS has a reason to do what it does even though most of the time the reasons are fiction and 2- if you look at any of the job numbers, increase, loss and those who drop out, employment has not gotten stronger.
