In the following excerpt from the Alternative Energy Report, an expert analyst discusses the outlook for the sector for investors:

TWST: What is the level of investor interest in the electric vehicle sector, and do you think the have a good grasp on the opportunities in the sector?

Mr. Galves: I think that in general investors over the last few years have become less interested in vehicle electrification in general, because early volumes and early products from some of the traditional automakers have been very weak versus original expectations. And some of the companies that were suppliers to those vehicles, the stock got the benefit of excitement around the EVs a few years ago, and when initial volumes were pretty weak, those stocks did not do well, and so I think that that disappointed a lot of investors and made them feel like it was risky.

So in the context of that, the fact that Tesla stock has done so well was, I think, surprising to us that investors were so quick to buy into the potential for Tesla to be a disruptive company that could drive change within the industry and could really benefit from being unique and compelling.

I think it's been a big lesson to me that the investment community is very flexible, and that they could be generally negative on a theme of electric vehicles, but be open to learning about a specific company that's doing things differently, and so I think that there is definitely a bifurcation between the belief in electric vehicles as a general theme in the industry, versus the belief in Tesla that they have a very unique product, that they are years ahead of the competition and that they could become a very large auto company.

And so I think that our view is that people are still not necessarily very bullish on EVs from traditional automakers, but are very bullish on EVs from Tesla, and I think over time that could trickle down into electrification as a theme, because it's important...
