BY THE NUMBERS: The Dow Chemical Co. reported a fourth-quarter net loss of $20 million, or 2 cents a share, as a one-time charge resulted in higher taxes at its Brazilian operations. Revenue rose 2 percent to $14.1 billion, helped by price hikes.
ECONOMIC IMPACT: Volume declined 3 percent overall. Weakness in Western Europe and the U.S. was partially offset by higher volume in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region.
WHAT'S NEXT: Dow doesn't expect to see much improvement until the second quarter and last half of the year.
