NET INCOME: The German engineering company Siemens saw profit slump to €1.02 billion ($1.34 billion) in the first three months of 2012, its fiscal second quarter, from €2.84 billion ($3.74 billion) the year before.
DIFFERENT YEAR: Last year, the company benefited from a €1.5 billion one-time gain from the sale of its stake in nuclear utility joint venture Areva NP. This year, it had to book a €640 million writedown on its stake in its NSN communications division, and also charges of €278 million in its power transmission division.
REVENUE: The Munich firm had revenues of €19.3 billion in the quarter, up 9 percent from the year before.
