DEAPRTING DIRECTOR: Patti Hart is surrendering her seat on Yahoo's board of directors amid a flap about an inaccuracy in CEO Scott Thompson's academic credentials. Hart led the committee that hired Thompson four months ago.
THE PROBLEM: Before Thompson joined Yahoo Inc., some versions of his biography had periodically included a bachelor's degree in computer science that he never received. The non-existent college degree subsequently was listed in Thompson's bio on Yahoo's website and in regulatory filings.
THE OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Hart says she is leaving Yahoo to avoid being distracted from her primary job as CEO of International Game Technology.
