MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Grocery chain Supervalu Inc. said its Chief Marketing Officer Julie Dexter Berg is stepping down and will be replaced by longtime Procter & Gamble executive Michael Moore.
The company, based in Minneapolis, said Tuesday that Berg decided to leave Supervalu to move to the West Coast.
Moore, 47, joined Supervalu last year as "business transformation officer," helping the company implement a turnaround. Supervalu's stock was trading above $45 a share before the financial crisis of 2008 and the recession. This year it has hovered below $10 a share.
Before joining Supervalu, Moore spent 24 years at the consumer products giant Procter & Gamble, holding a number of executive positions. He worked in sales, marketing, finance, operations and human resources.
Moore was most recently director of Procter & Gamble's grocery retail group. He will now report directly to Supervalu CEO Craig Herkert. As chief marketing officer, Moore will oversee customer and brand strategies, advertising, customer loyalty programs and research.
Supervalu operates grocery stores under the Albertsons, Cub Foods, Shop 'n Save and other brands.
Shares of Supervalu fell 12 cents, or nearly 2 percent, to close at $6.93.
