CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Swisher Hygiene on Monday said it named board member William Pierce as its new president and CEO.
Pierce takes over from Thomas Byrne, who had been serving as interim president and CEO for the cleaning sanitation products and services provider since August 2012, when Steven Berrard resigned from the positions.
Byrne will return to his previous role, executive vice president. The appointment are effective immediately.
Pierce has served as a Swisher Hygiene Inc. director since June. He will resign from his roles on the Charlotte, N.C. company's audit and compensation committees, as required by Nasdaq listing requirements.
He most recently served as senior vice president of Huizenga Holdings Inc., where he worked since 1990. His tenure included multiple roles, including five years as chief financial officer of Dolphins Enterprises, where he was responsible for all non-football business operations of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium.
Shares of Swisher Hygiene Inc. closed Friday at 76 cents, down more than 56 percent since the start of the year. The stock traded as high as $11.43 in April 2011, but has not topped $1.94 in the past 52 weeks.
