NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Hill+Knowlton Strategies has tapped Tali Mackay, industry veteran and current senior vice president in the firm’s Los Angeles healthcare practice, as the practice’s new U.S. leader. Mackay brings to the position more than 20 years of agency and in-house expertise, including corporate thought leadership, branding, product launches, digital content marketing, influencer strategies, mergers and acquisitions and crisis communications.
“Tali has been instrumental in client and new business successes for Los Angeles and the U.S. practice since joining us in 2012,” said Andy Weitz, U.S. president and CEO. “Each step of the way from the beginning of her career practicing as an RN, to her current role leading key client teams in our region and globally, she has proven to be a dedicated counselor and strategic partner.”
Mackay takes the helm of the U.S. healthcare practice from David Bowen, H+K’s global head of healthcare, who joined the firm last summer. Bowen assumed the role of interim head of the U.S. healthcare practice in the fall, with Susan Thiele, then head of H+K Strategies’ U.S. and New York healthcare practices, stepping down from the U.S. role to take on expanded responsibilities in New York, working closely with its GM to drive growth in the firm’s global HQ office. With this appointment, Bowen will now return his whole focus to the global practice he leads.
“I’m turning over to Tali the keys to a U.S. health practice that is very strong: solid revenues, a healthy mix of organic and new-business-driven growth, and an impressive breadth and depth of talent with sector experience and insights across our offices,” Bowen said. “She has been a key contributor to that strength, and I know she is the right person to keep our firm and our clients on that growth trajectory.”
Mackay began her communications career in Genentech’s Regulatory Affairs department. Next she joined Baxter BioScience in Regulatory Affairs and was then appointed vice president of global communications, responsible for the re-branding of Baxter BioScience, in addition to oversight of all external and internal communications. After a decade at Baxter, Mackay joined the agency world to help develop integrated communications for healthcare and consumer clients.
“This is an incredibly exciting and dynamic time to be in the healthcare space, from products to people to policies,” Mackay said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues throughout the region to guide our clients through this landscape.”
Previously Mackay was a registered nurse and public health nurse, with clinical experience in neurosurgery/neurology, general medicine and hospice. She completed undergraduate work at University of California at Berkeley, and earned her Master of Science in nursing (administration) from San Francisco State University.
