Tandy Leather posts 14 pct increase in March sales at retail stores open at least a year

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Tandy Leather Factory Inc. said Thursday its March revenue at retail stores open at least a year jumped 14 percent from a year ago.

The figure rose 2 percent for its wholesale leathercraft business, the company said.

Revenue at stores open at least a year, is considered a key measure of retail performance because it excludes sales at locations that opened or closed within the last year.

Total March sales rose 7 percent to $6.2 million from $5.8 million in the same month last year.

Retail sales rose 15 percent to $3.6 million, while wholesale sales fell 6 percent to $2.3 million and international sales jumped 37 percent to $241,000.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based company sells leather goods, buckles and accessories at 76 Tandy Leather stores and 29 Leather Factory stores.
