Telma Speeds Content Delivery for Madagascar With PeerApp

Transparent Caching Platform Improves Subscriber Quality While Reducing Reliance on Costly International Transit

NEWTON, MA--(Marketwire - Nov 7, 2012) - PeerApp, the leading provider of transparent caching platforms for Internet content delivery, today announced that Telma is using PeerApp's UltraBand transparent caching platform. UltraBand allows Telma to deliver Internet content with improved quality, while reducing associated network load and costs.

With nearly two million mobile and fixed-line subscribers, Telma is Madagascar's leading network operator. Telma faces a particular challenge in that 80% of requested content originates off-island and must traverse costly, bandwidth-limited international transit links. PeerApp's UltraBand transparent caching platform helps Telma speed content delivery and reduce reliance on transit connections by automatically detecting and storing popular content, and delivering it locally.

Using UltraBand, Telma has been able to speed delivery of all types of content including streaming video, HTTP and peer-to-peer file sharing, software downloads and web pages. For example, they were able to serve the recent 'storm' of Apple iOS 6 downloads with no strain on network capacity.

"PeerApp allowed us to take full control of subscriber quality and network cost, greatly reducing our reliance on international transit providers," said Stephane BEUVELET, Group CTO at Telma. "For example, with UltraBand we have been able to launch a premium ADSL service offering that is 8 times faster than our standard service, without having to make a corresponding upgrade in international bandwidth."

"Like many of our customers across Africa and the Middle East, Telma faces the dual challenge of remotely-originated content and costly international bandwidth," said James Ryan, senior vice president and general manager of international sales, PeerApp. "Helping these operators deliver the best possible service while controlling network costs has led to the widespread adoption of our technology in the region."

PeerApp will demonstrate the features and benefits of its UltraBand platform at Africa Com 2012, Cape Town, 13-15 November in the Africa Cast exhibition, Stand 4.
