In the following excerpt from the Alternative Energy Report, an expert analyst discusses the outlook for the sector for investors:

TWST: What is the level of investor interest in energy technology right now, and do you think investors are accurately assessing the opportunities in the space?

Mr. Kallo: I think that we've had Tesla (TSLA), which has been kind of the hallmark story of energy technology, and I think that has done a couple of things. One, it has renewed interest in the overall sector.

Two, this is a sector that was heavily short, and Tesla was kind of the leader of the pack of a stock that was short within the group, and because of Tesla's success and the stock price's success, I think that it has given pause to people that want to come and short these stocks, because people lost a lot of money on Tesla's shorting it. So it makes it more difficult to short many of these stocks.

Now as far as regular investors' interests, I'm getting more calls from not just sustainable investors or environmental investors or people focused on the sector, but more generalists are looking at especially again, when we talk about solar and some of the volatility decreasing because of the diversity of end markets, I think that that is helping people get more comfortable with it.

TWST: What are your top three stock picks right now?

Mr. Kallo: Yes, sure. So from the especially advanced fuels, chemicals and materials segment, my favorite pick is W.R. Grace (GRA). From the energy efficiency and services segment, my favorite pick is EnerNOC; and from the renewable space, my favorite pick is SunPower (SPWR).

TWST: Additionally, can you give us a little commentary on why you like each of those?
