Time for Recess: Public School 310 Opening Fall 2012 in Culver City

Marketwired

WOODLAND HILLS, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 7, 2012) - Public School 310, a full-service restaurant/bar concept focusing on "An Education in the Art of Beer and Food," is set to open in early November in the heart of downtown Culver City. The 125-seat restaurant and bar, created by local restaurateur Bob Spivak, one of the founders of classic American mainstays The Grill on the Alley and Daily Grill restaurants, will feature craft beers from around the world and a chef-driven menu by Executive Chef Phil Kastel.

The original beer list was developed with the help of beer connoisseur Hallie Beaune of thebeerchicks.com and co-author of The Naked Pint. Additionally, the bar will feature artisanal cocktails inspired by the classics and wines "on tap" served from wine kegs.

"Culver City is home to many of the LA foodie community's favorite spots and we are proud to announce that we will soon be part of that community with our new restaurant Public School 310," says Bob Spivak.

Public School 310 will offer the freshest quality ingredients, including those sourced from local Farmer's Markets like the weekly Culver City market. Featured menu items will include: Cauliflower Graton with Crispy Speck, Roasted Beets with Ricotta Salata, Lamb Bolognaise, Pressed Chicken with White Bean Ragu, and Cioppino with Grilled Lavan.

"Recess," aka happy hour, will be offered daily with special menu items priced at 2.00, 4.00 and 6.00 such as Margherita Lavash Pizza, Parmesan Truffle Fries and Tres Adobo Tacos. The bar will offer ongoing "Night School" classes such as beer pairings and spirits and seasonal cocktail tastings.

Public School 310 is taking over the space that formerly housed Fraiche and the space will be completely revamped to fit the restaurant and bar concept. Designed by George Kelly and Jen Smith of Los Angeles-based Kelly Architects, the design is meant to offer something to everyone and trigger that nostalgic memory of a classroom: the use of semi-precious materials (like tile, wood and steel) juxtaposed with more refined polished chrome furniture and light fixtures and the use of common school equipment as an art installation. The common tables at the bar and bar patio along with the patio service window encourage movement and community, where the dining area allows for a more intimate one-on-one environment. The new open air dining patio is being raised to the level of the exterior to become an extension of the interior dining room, blurring the lines between inside and out.

"We wanted to emphasize the restaurant's goal of offering 'an education in the art of beer and food' by using the materials of classrooms from a time when the notion of 'School' was timeless, respected and appreciated," says George Kelly. "We also want to give the guests a direct view of how the meals are being prepared by providing 'chef' seats directly adjacent to the large pass through opening at the glass enclosed kitchen."

Located at Culver Blvd. and Main Street in Culver City, PS310 will be open for lunch and dinner serving till midnight, seven days a week. Visit www.PSonTap.com.
