NEW YORK (AP) -- Time Warner Inc. said on Monday that its new chief financial officer will be Howard Averill, who was formerly CFO at Time Inc.

Averill is succeeding former Chief Financial Officer John Martin, who will become CEO of Time Warner's cable network division Turner Broadcasting Systems on Jan. 1.

Time Warner's chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes said Averill "has been an exemplary leader and a stabilizing force at Time Inc. through a period of tremendous change. His financial acumen, sound judgment and broad understanding of our businesses will be an asset to Time Warner's management team and our company." He said Averill "brings a great blend of integrity, effectiveness and an understated collegial style to his new role."

At Time Inc., Averill has had responsibility for the company's technology, production, and fulfillment operations. He also oversees its consumer marketing business.

Before joining Time Inc. in 2007, Averill was chief financial officer at NBC Universal Television.
