Top Gear is the popular British television show that often features supercars at the extremes of automotive performance. The point of the show, in other words, is to flirt with the line of control. This week, however, the show's Korean affiliate sailed clear over that boundary--and into the ground. Top Gear Korea has just released frightening--and, okay, sorta thrilling--footage of a helicopter crash that took place in the middle of a filmed segment.
The good news: neither the pilot nor the on-board cameraman was injured in the crash. The better news: we got it all on tape.
What you'll see in the video is show presenter Kim Jin Pyo racing a Corvette ZR1 against an AH1 Cobra helicopter. At about the one-minute mark, the chopper, which had been flying perilously near the ground--the better to film the car--loops awkwardly backward through the air, touching down in an open field, throwing up a cloud of dust and parts. The driver, Kim, is visibly upset; the video concludes with him jumping out of the Corvette and running toward the wreckage.
Have a look at the crash video. It isn't material for a Darwin Awards submission--seriously, who among us can say he wouldn't love to race a helicopter?--but it isn't far off.
And below is one of Top Gear UK's more famous stunts--a drag race between a Bugatti Veyron and a fighter jet.
