Seven midsize cars earned "superior" ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety after being tested for high-tech safety features that are designed to prevent front-end crashes. They are General Motors' (GM) Cadillac ATS and SRX, Mercedes C-Class, Subaru Legacy and Outback, and Volvo S60 and XC60. The nonprofit research group, which is funded by insurers, tested 74 midsize cars and SUVs from the '13-14 model years.
