GLENDALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
The Town of Middlefield, CT successfully managed their communications during Hurricane Sandy using the newly implemented Everbridge system. Everbridge, the leading provider of interactive communication and mass notification solutions, enabled the broadcast of critical emergency information to Middlefield’s over 5,000 citizens through the entire lifecycle of the event.
Hurricane Sandy, which caused more than eight million power outages nationwide, struck the Town of Middlefield just days after they completed implementation of the Everbridge mass communication and emergency notification system. With over 20% of Middlefield households without an active landline telephone, Everbridge’s capability to simultaneously broadcast information across a variety of contact paths including mobile phone, SMS, pager, landlines and email provided town officials the ability to communicate their message as efficiently as possible.
Communication of critical information begins before the storm strikes, explains Brian Dumas, emergency management director, Town of Middlefield. “It’s not just a post incident notification system. This system is to be used before the storm hits by 48 to 24 hours ahead of time while all communication lines are still functioning and people have the ability to prepare. It’s essential to communicate across the lifecycle of the event, from beginning to end.”
“Everbridge is dedicated to providing communities like Middlefield with the ability to efficiently communicate with their citizens,” said Imad Mouline, chief strategy officer, Everbridge. “In the Town of Middlefield’s case, the quick and complete implementation of the system took place just days before the hurricane struck, highlighting the benefits of a robust SaaS solution that is easy to use and does not require time intensive manual data entry processes.”
With the successful performance of the Everbridge system during Hurricane Sandy, town officials have indicated future plans to use the system for communications across several town agencies and use cases including water and air quality control.
