Toyota is recalling millions of vehicles before something goes wrong.
Up to 40,000 vehicles could be affected in New Zealand with recalls primarily focusing on Hilux and Yaris models.
Toyota spokesman Spencer Morris says the manufacturer is being proactive and checking for faulty parts before they malfunction.
"This is a precautionary recall, so we haven't had any accidents or crashes or injuries as a result.
"We're doing this because we're not happy with the failure rate of these parts."
Spencer Morris says all repairs will be free of charge regardless of who imported the car.
