Specialty grocer Trader Joe's chooses Irving for Texas distribution center

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Trader Joe's has chosen a site in suburban Dallas for the specialty grocer's first distribution center in Texas.

The Dallas Morning News (http://dallasne.ws/13jIXd9 ) reported Monday that Trader Joe's has leased a nearly 729,000-square-foot building in Irving.

Trader Joe's spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki says work will begin Friday to transform the warehouse into a grocery-distribution complex. The site is expected to open later this year with about 200 employees.

Trader Joe's has stores in Fort Worth, Plano, San Antonio and Houston. The grocer plans to open a store in Austin next year.
